Hired a car from Sixt Chambery - on picking it up the boot looked too small for our bags and smaller that the Peugeot 3008 that was given as a typical car for the class. However, the staff tried everything to help us, including taking our bags to the car and looking at other options. Ultimately they didn't have a different car but with their help we managed to squeeze everything into the BMW 225. The car turned out to be great, as we found out after that the rear seats slide forward to give a bigger boot. Would have helped a lot if the staff knew this, but they were very new - both just a few days in, so not their fault. Overall a very positive experience.

No screen wash whatsoever. Tyre pressure monitor would not go off even though tyres were equal. Worrying when it's not your car and you are driving in an unfamiliar place. One very important thing...in the Savoi/Alpes area it is compulsory between November and March to have winter tyres fitted or carry snow chains. I had to pay extra for snow chains without any idea how I was going to fit them if the weather got bad. I think hire cars should be made to have winter tyres fitted as standard as per the French government's rules. Surely the safety of the hirer is important? However, on a good note the staff were extremely helpful and considerate. Spoke English which was a bonus for me. Easy to follow instructions for drop off carpark and didn't charge me for the small amount of fuel i had not been able to top up due to the petrol station being closed. I will definitely be using them again.
