Travel Tips & News from SIXT Rent a Car

Renting a car at Brisbane Airport: Everything You Should Know

Brisbane Airport is the gateway to sunny Brisbane, the capital of Queensland.

Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or a week, a car rental is one of the best ways to get around.

It makes it easy to reach out-of-the-way places, take memorable day trips and maybe even conquer a road trip or two.

We’re here to help ensure your experience at Brisbane Airport is as smooth as possible, and, with that in mind, we’ve put together this guide to everything you should know before jetting off.

Where to find your car rental provider at Brisbane Airport

Whether you’re disembarking a domestic flight or a long-haul journey from the other side of the world, you don’t want to get lost when you arrive.

The good news is that most car rental providers are onsite.

To find SIXT, look out for the signs pointing to rental vehicles. Follow them across the sky bridge, then take a lift to the ground floor.

SIXT is on the eastern side – keep your eyes peeled for our bright orange colours.

After greeting you with a warm welcome, our staff will answer your questions, request your documentation (including your driver’s licence), present your keys and take you to your SIXT car rental.

What types of car rentals are available at Brisbane Airport?

At Brisbane Airport, you’ll find a car rental to suit you – wherever your holiday takes you and however you long you stay.

SIXT, being one of the world’s biggest car rental companies, has a big collection of vehicles. They range from hybrids, which help you keep your eco-footprint to a minimum, to automatic sedans, which are a dream to drive, to full-size vans, which let you bring your friends or family with you.

A range of optional extras is on offer, such as GPS units, prepaid fuel, toll tags and child seats, allowing you to tailor your car rental to meet your needs.

Driving in Queensland: Essential tips for international drivers

Never driven in Australia before? Or maybe it’s been a while, and you need to brush up on the road rules?

Driving in Queensland is pretty straightforward (and a lot of fun), but there’s a few things you should know.

First, like a small number of other countries, we drive on the left, and overtake on the right. Our speed limits, measured in kilometres per hour, are mandatory.

It’s illegal to use a mobile phone while driving, unless it’s hands-free, and passengers are required to wear seat belts.

Also against the law is drink driving – and, if you’re caught, you could find yourself with a criminal record. The blood alcohol limit for most drivers is 0.05% – and, for some, it’s even lower.

Petrol stations near Brisbane Airport

It’s a good idea to refuel on your way back to Brisbane Airport. That way, you’ll save time and avoid paying any refuel fees to you car rental provider.

There are at least three petrol stations nearby. You’ll find BP on Airport Drive, Caltex Woolworths on Nudgee Road and Shell Coles Express on Kingsford Smith Drive.

Pick-ups and drop-offs at Brisbane Airport

Picking up and dropping off your rental vehicle at Brisbane Airport is pretty straightforward.

At both ends, take a few photos of the car, so you have a record of its condition, both before and after driving.

To return any SIXT vehicle, follow the signs marked “rental returns” (on signs and in-lane). SIXT Brisbane Airport is at the very end of Moreton Drive all the way to the end.

Please park in one of our designated bays, then leave your keys with our staff. Or, if you’re arriving after hours, pop them in the drop box. In the domestic terminal, you’ll find it on the pillar next to the SIXT branch. In the international terminals, it’s on the SIXT desk in arrivals on level 2.
