Think precarious, ancient cliffs, gorgeous beaches with crashing waves and super-hip seaside towns. It’s an easy weekend getaway which will be sure to inspire, and a great opportunity to take in the iconic Twelve Apostles (before it’s too late!).
If you have a little more time on your hands, the coastal route from Sydney to Melbourne (or vice versa) is a must. It’s a twelve-hour drive straight through, but we recommend taking a bit more time so you’ll be able to enjoy the pristine coastal scenery at relaxing Lakes Entrance, whale watching opportunities at Eden and the magnificent Kiama blowhole– just to name a few great sites on this adventure. Want a local tip? If the main blowhole is a little overcrowded with tourists, ask one of the locals where the smaller one is. It’s just as impressive, and even better for your Instagram!
Finally, if you find yourself in the Red Centre and feel like doing some serious driving, the Alice Springs to Darwin route is a well-worn backpacker paradise. It’s sparse, 1500km long terrain may seem daunting, but you’ll hardly notice with the stunning landscape the Outback is known for as a distraction. Make sure to visit mystical Uluru and sweeping Kings Canyon – you’ll never want to leave.
