My husband and I travel a lot. A LOT a lot - military family, three kids… and the worst part is usually the rental car wrangle. People trying to upsell us, extra charges, endless lines, shuttles to get to and from the car location. But we REALLY wanted to rent a car in Belfast. The shore excursions from our cruise ship were LONG bus rides with “photo stops”, but no real chance to hike and explore. And they were EXPENSIVE. So we chose Sixt because they had a location AT the cruise terminal, we’re an heck of a lot more affordable than the ship’s tours, and crossed our fingers. When I tell you it was the easiest thing ever, that the car was perfect, that David was kind and helpful - providing us with a map, offering suggestions of what to see, things to do, and places to eat - it was THE BEST. And we had the BEST day. SO much better than a packed tour. We stopped where we wanted - Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Old Bushmills for a whiskey tasting, the rope bridge - we were able to fit so much in and really explore. Epic day. EPIC. And no worries about getting lost on the way back, because David WhatsApp’d us a pin drop to make it easy to navigate back. Buuuut…. It was so epic that we ran out of time to fill up the car. No problem - David made it easy peasy to settle up on site and was very understanding. ALSO so epic that in the flurry of getting back to the ship, I left my wallet in the car. Massive, heart-stopping mistake. In a panic I texted him at 9:30 at night (he was clearly not working at that time - I just panicked!). He was very kind and calming. Checked the car first thing in the morning, found my wallet, texted me photos of everything in it, THEN helped to figure out the best place to ship it so I could meet up with it. He went above and beyond - made sure I had photos of all my IDs, sent me photos of the mail service, confirmed with the Edinburgh staff when they received it, and double checked with me that I got it back okay. I CANNOT recommend this location of Sixt enough. Honestly the best customer service ever; he went to crazy lengths to help fix my mistake and have it not impact our holiday - I cannot thank him enough. And at least half of our texting communication was after hours for him, meaning he was just doing it because he’s a decent person and cares about doing the right thing. If you’re a cruise ship passenger, rent a car here. You’ll make memories for a lifetime, and get to explore places the cruise tours won’t take you. Just remember to check under your seats!
