This is in an area dominated by a string of islands out to the west of Norway, known as the 'Lofoten Archipelago'. It is an area of stunning natural beauty and nothing could be more rewarding than taking a small car and simply driving around the coast lines of these islands. Situated just north of the arctic circle, these islands have very few inhabitants,so peace and quiet are guaranteed, but car rental is a must. There's also the 'Lofotr Viking Museum' which is a fascinating old building that dates from ancient times and offers a unique look at Viking culture in Norway. Or perhaps try some of the sea food dishes from the area, which is good. Eating lots is also highly recommended not only to keep out the cold, but to keep you energised enough to stay up all day during the summer months when the sun still shines at midnight!
