If you wish to set off along the Larapinta and Namatjira Drive (also known as the Mereenie Loop), you should note that you can only travel along this road with a High Clearance 4WD. You will need a permit to travel along it, which can be obtained from the Central Land Council in Alice Springs or the Kings Canyon Resort.

There are a few roads around Central Australia that can only be travelled on with permission from SIXT, and if you are travelling with another vehicle. These roads include Tanami Track, Gunbarrell Highway, Plenty/Donahue Highway, Canning Stock Route, Oodnadatta Track, Strezlecki track and Birdsville Track.
